No Man's Land

So few movies touch on things that really matter. Most are just another movie. Some, and I do mean VERY few, actually make you think, and realize things that you may not have known before. The movie No Man's Land (2001) is such a movie. It shows, in a wonderful way, the conflict between Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1993 war. A war which most people, including myself, still have an issue really understanding. It's so much easier when there is a bad guy (Hitler) and good guy (Churchill), when one side just invades another country (Germany invading Poland)... but, the world is rarely black and white (even WWII wasn't really black and white but I used it for my example never the less). This conflict, the Bosnia and Herzegovina war was one of the most grey, and confusing war I have ever tried to understand. In fact, even the movie makes the point to show how similar both sides were (and are) and how even they can't always tell each other apart. It's a wonderful story that shows, with a bit of black humour, some of the ridiculous aspects of ANY conflict... especially this one. Everything about this film is wonderful, the characters, the story, and especially the ending. This is obviously NOT a Hollywood movie... but a true film.

Next

I just saw this... interesting movie Next. About a man (Nicolas Cage) who has an amazing ability to be able to forsee his future. The limit, though, is 2 minutes so that makes things a little more interesting.

While he's working in Vegas (as a magician) who likes to go to the local casino's and win a little (but not too much not to get thrown out). He ends up being spied on by the FBI and by the bad guys who want to blow up New York (with a Nuke of course).

Anyway, the story is a bit weak, though Jessica Biel is a incredible as ever. Many things are not explained, some things are not consistent. A few cool scenes... I had fun watching this, but don't expect too much.

Who Killed the Electric Car?

Every once in a while a movie comes out that really makes you think. Yeah, I know, most people aren't used to that. Seriously though, you think you know what it's all about? You think you have things figured out? You think the US (and other) governments have anything other than money and power on their minds? Of course not... but once in a while they make it so obvious it hurts... and this is one of those times. Our oil dependence is artificially created, and maintained. So many have paid with their lives... so many will still pay. I am a firm believer though, that knowing is the first step in change. Please watch this movie, and then ask yourself the obvious question "Why do we allow this shit to happen right in front of us?"

Shooter

This is a new movie staring Mark Wahlberg. I have to say, I still remember when Wahlberg was Marky Mark... who would have thought he would turn into a great actor. This is a great action movie with just enough twists to keep it interesting.

Sicko

Well I just saw this movie, so I wanted to do a quick review. This is a really great movie, and trust me... I am no Michael Moore fan. In fact I have to say, I really hope this movie opens people's eyes to circus that the US health system is... and the incredible amount of BS that people are fed about how wonderful the US system. There are some scenes that are a little staged (like the trip to Cuba, where I'm sure Castro was more than happy to help show how poorly the US is treating their own citizens) but overall I think you'll find very little bad things to say about this movie. It's just the way things are... now deal with it (oh and go watch this movie!)

Charlotte's Web

Yes, I actually saw Charlotte's Web. This is the latest version of the book, a live action movie where most of the animals were computer generated (most of the time). Some pretty famous actors lent their voices to bring the animals to life including: Julia Roberts, Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Oprah Winfrey, Kathy Bates, Robert Redford and more...

Overall I must say I was very impressed with the movie being very light hearted, and even touching at times. Now they obviously made some of the animals (namely the Spider) look a little more human so people (ok kids) could relate to the characters more (like making 2 of the eyes bigger so it looked more human). But still... for what this movie was, and for what I was expecting. Pretty good.

Great date flick, great to watch with kids... overall I liked it. So if your in the mood for a very easy going movie, with lots of heart... this is it. Glad to see they didn't screw up a classic. :-)

Thank You for Smoking

Well I just watched Thank You for Smoking. I movie I did NOT expect to come out of thinking good about myself, but I did. Probably the main reason for this was because the movie wasn't actually about smoking and how it is dangerous for you.

Yes the main character Nick Naylor (Aaron Eckhart) is the main spokes person for the Tobacco Industry... but really, this movie is about friendship, family, and values.

If you have not seen it... see it. I doubt you will be disappointed. I hope you come out of watching it as surprised as I was... just how good this movie is. (Aaron Echhart is superb!)
